Sarah Soza is a viola and violin player from the Greater Los Angeles area. Having performed in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings, Sarah is a versatile musician with an acute sensitivity to those around her. She is an advocate of new music, especially as a violist, and seeks to play pieces which step outside the bounds of western art music. During her studies, Sarah was regularly enlisted by her fellows and instructors to perform in alternate spaces, leading to an interest in stage performances
Sarah is currently employed at L.A. Violin Shop located in Koreatown where she works with customers to select the perfect instrument within the parameters of size, price, and timbre. To achieve this final specification, Sarah demonstrates a full range of sounds, providing the customer with another perspective into any given instrument. Additionally, Sarah teaches privately and volunteers her knowledge to the children of The Ark of Montebello, Calvary Church. To her, teaching offers an opportunity to better understand the craft and connect with musicians in the making.
Sarah's journey with music started at a young age, and she often cites her mother’s dedication to education as her main motivation. At age 5, Sarah studied beginning violin technique with Lorraine Fink, close associate of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, and later advanced her playing with Michael McLean at the Colburn School of Performing Arts. Later, she made the decision to pursue music through viola playing under the tutelage of acclaimed violist and student of William Primrose, Dr. Jerzy Kosmala. Under Dr. Kosmala, Sarah shared her music at honors performances, music festivals, and on the international stage in Krakow, Poland (2022, 2024).
Sarah graduated with honors from University of California-Irvine (UCI) with a Bachelor’s of Music - Viola Performance and a Bachelor’s of Arts - International Studies.
Sarah enjoys working in her garden, the sound of wind-chimes, and watching clouds.
